Sip my ocean

I had a day off yesterday and went to see Pipilotti Rist's Sip My Ocean exhibit at the MCA. It was pretty enjoyable - lots of immersive light based exhibits.

Budapest

Please accept this post about Budapest from my trip in August while I try and get my life together.

One of the cities we were most looking forward to on our trip was Budapest. It's really exploded in popularity in the last few years, hasn't it! I was kind of imaging a quaint, small town based on people's pictures, but it's quite a big bustling city. It's divided into two by the river Danube, with Buda on the western side and Pest on the other. Buda is where the castle is, but Pest is the commercial centre and where we stayed and hung out. Budapest does have a bit of a party town feel, but there are still lots of cultural and historical points of interest.

Home improvements

If you can't wear dad jeans while putting together IKEA furniture, when can you?

Some of you might have noticed it's been quiet around here (or not, because no one actually pays that much attention to your blog Jane). I've been busy trying to move into my new apartment, so all my energy outside of work has been spent hunting for furniture, buying that furniture, carting it to the new place (with the help of my dad), and putting it together. It took me two hours to assemble an IKEA step stool last weekend, because I missed one step and had to dis-assemble it and start again (I fear for my life every time I use it). I also never knew there were so many essential objects to living life. Like a fridge. And kitchen knives. My parents have been shielding me from adulting for way too long, so it looks like I'm going to be in for a nasty (but fun) shock.

So just thought I'd pop in to explain my absence. I'm excited to show you guys my new place, cobbled together with the lowest expenditure possible, and even better - there is a wall, with good lighting all day, perfect for outfit photos. I'm trying to sound ironic but I really am excited about it. See you on the other side!

P.S. check out my new phone and the best case ever. They're peaches. If you think otherwise, that's your problem.

Bratislava

Bratislava wasn't originally on our itinerary, but when I read that it was only an hour by train from Vienna we decided to make a day trip of it. It still blows my mind how close together major cities can be in Europe. To be honest, the first time I'd heard about Bratislava was when I watched Eurotrip, and this scene was much quoted that day. All jokes aside, the old town of Bratislava was really, really lovely - now on my list of favourite old towns. A day was definitely more than enough to cover it. We didn't do a walking tour or too much research before going, so these are just going to be pretty pictures with no context.
