Niagara Falls

These pictures are from my USA trip in December last year, when we drove up to Niagara Falls over Christmas. After I did the three posts on New York, I decided to save the remaining photos for later... and proceeded to forget about them. But talking to YY about her plans for her America trip reminded me of their existence, and since I haven't been doing anything lately worth posting about, I figured better late than never.

We'd driven all day from Ohio and reached Niagara Falls at sundown. I felt that the backdrop of the city skyline was kind of weird.

I was more mesmerised by the mist than the actual waterfalls. It was beautiful but I'm told they're even more impressive when viewed from the lower platforms (which were closed due to the snow).

We stayed overnight in town and the next morning had a look from another angle.

I decided I couldn't stand the look of untouched snow on the tabletops and got creative.

Behold, my tiny snowlady. Obviously my snowperson making skills aren't that flash, but I grew up in Sydney...

I've been pretty busy with uni work lately, and I'm still using one crutch so I'm not really keen on leaving the house when I don't have to. About the knee, I saw the specialist on Wednesday and he said that I'd probably subluxed/dislocated it but I won't need any scans or surgery, just physiotherapy. I was super relieved, I slept so much better that night! Hopefully I'll be back on both legs soon.

  2. I'm so glad that your knee is getting better! And these pictures, everything is so surreal and beautiful! I love seeing belated photos, they make me think about 'the time back when...'. And these are just stunning! I'd love to visit the USA someday, even though I've been in New York (I think / am being told that New York is really different from the rest of America). But then again, I'd love to travel the world someday!

  4. the contrast between the waterfall and the city lights is amazing! i never seen that angle before in pictures, always thought the waterfalls were isolated. Really cool pics as always! xx

  6. I had the SAME sentiment about niagra falls when I visited. I was imagining this beautiful tall waterfall surrounded by nature-y things, but instead, I got a fat waterfall with hotels in the background = lamerz.

  7. It's beautiful. I guess it is a little strange, where the man-made world meets with the natural world. It's still breathtaking. I'd say that the snow woman looks pretty impressive for someone who doesn't regularly make snowmen and snowomen. It won't be long until you are up an about having food adventures again!

  14. These photos are amazing! The photo with the cuty in the background is especially stunning - I feel like everyone always trys to take photos that look all natural and pretty, but the contrast between the falls and the city lights is brilliant.

  22. um and you say i take great photographs?! i love how you captured the Falls here! I actually like the city skyline in the back, it's such a crazy contrast. i remember going to visit when i was like 10, and we took the boat ride to it- it was SO fun getting drenched. I can still hear the roar of that water, so crazy. And love the snowman, hahah

  31. awww snow lady! Making a proper snow man can be a real hassle. One time I built one as big as me, but I had to have my brother help me lift the huge snowballs. Your photos of the falls are beautiful :)
